The Effects of Food Expressive Art Therapy (FEAT) Program on Infant-mother¡¯s Parenting Efficacy, Depression and Self-compassion

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find the effect of Food Expressive Art Therapy (FEAT) on the parenting efficacy, depression and self-compassion of infant-mothers. The subjects for this study were voluntary participated infant-mothers of a day care in C city; Eight out of 16 participants were placed into the experimental group, and 8 were placed into the controlled group. The program held for 150 minutes, once a week. It consisted of 8 sessions for 8 weeks. pre, post, and follow-up test were conducted to measure the effectiveness of this study, using a parenting efficacy, depression and self-compassion scale. The effect of the program were tested in repeated measure ANOVA, simple main effect and multiple comparisons with the SPSS 25.0 program, and supplemented participants' experiences and changed records. The results are as follows. First, FEAT program had a significant change on promoting the parenting efficacy of infant-mothers. Second, FEAT program was shown to reduce depression of infant-mothers. Third, FEAT program had a significant change on promoting the self-compassion of infant-mothers. This study shows that this program can be contributed to improving the psychological variables of infant-mothers. Especially the activities of sharing food can be the therapeutic factors. Finally, the limitations of this study and the suggestions for future study was discussed.
